Against the Flow: out now!

Date: 31 Mar 2015

John Lennox’s latest book, Against the Flow, is now out! There has been a huge amount of interest in it, even prior to publication, as the number of pre-orders was so high that Monarch (a division of Lion Hudson) had to do a second print run before the title had been released. Demand continued to outstrip supply and they had to do a third print run within a fortnight of the launch!

The book is available from all major suppliers (£12.99 in the UK) and more information about it can be seen here.

Daniel’s story is one of extraordinary faith in God lived out at the pinnacle of executive power. It tells of four teenage friends, born in the tiny state of Judah about twenty-six centuries ago, but captured by Nebuchadnezzar, emperor of Babylon. Daniel describes how they eventually rose to the top echelons of administration. Daniel and his friends did not simply maintain their private devotion to God; they maintained a high-profile witness in a pluralistic society antagonistic to their faith. That is why their story has such a powerful message for us. Society tolerates the practice of Christianity in private and in church services, but it increasingly deprecates public witness. If Daniel and his compatriots were with us today they would be in the vanguard of the public debate. What was it that gave that ancient foursome, Daniel and his three friends, the strength and conviction to be prepared, often at great risk, to swim against the flow?

  1. I travelled down to Oxford from Birmingham for the book launch, and it was a real pleasure to meet John and Sally, and John’s assistant Simon.
This new book is the fourth of John’s that I’ve read, and they always keep me interested in what he’s going to say next. John always has something to inform me on, and I love his logical analysis of even a seemingly ordinary passage of scripture.
I really enjoyed reading Against the Flow. meeting John and hearing his passion for the subject was inspiring!

  2. I just listened to the Daniel Book lecture + QandA on Premier Christian Radio (Justin Brierley, ~July 2015) and it was brilliant. Scientists like me need to be reminded that the Bible is vitally important, and that we should know it. It is very easy to forget and instead focus upon science and apologetics.
